Our team is trained to foster trusting, empathetic relationships with residents and their families, creating a warm and supportive community.

Partnership Care

Care at The Fern Dean Stepaside will be delivered on a partnership basis. Our team, led by Fabio Cardoso (Director of Nursing), residents’ families and health care experts collaborate to provide the best for our residents. The Fern Dean Stepaside is a modern, purpose built facility where you can be confident that residents happiness and wellbeing is our focus every day. It’s often the little things that matter most. The highly experienced team will care for residents to the highest standards and will take the time to get to know and understand exactly how they like things to be. Long and short term care can be provided. The best way to decide if The Fern Dean Stepaside is right for you is to speak to our team. We will bring you through the process from start to finish.

Steps to Care

Step 1

Get in contact with us either by email  info@ferndeanstepaside.ie or the enquiry form here.

Step 2

Our team will contact you to discuss how we might be able to help and the care we can provide. You can ask any questions that you might have in relation to the care and services we provide.

Step 3

You will be offered a tour of the residence including the accommodation, communal areas, dining facilities and outdoor spaces. We understand that there are additional challenges at a time like this and we will assist you through those. We will guide you through the process and the next steps.

Step 4

All prospective residents will require a full nursing assessment in advance of admission to The Fern Dean Stepaside. Lilly Molloy, our relationship manager, will organise and coordinate this assessment.

Step 5

Our new resident will be welcomed to The Fern Dean Stepaside where you can be confident that their wellbeing and happiness is our priority every day.

Dementia Care

Programmes specifically designed to help people living with dementia are in place. Focus is on a person’s skills and abilities rather than those they have lost. The person rather than the disease is at the centre of everything. We provide Sonas therapy as appropriate.

Services & Therapies

The Fern Dean Stepaside offers a team of medical experts and services to look after the care of our residents. These include Nurses, GPs, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist Tissue Viability Nurse and Dietitian. We provide pharmacy, chiropody, optical, dental, mobile x-ray, 24 hour doctor-on-call services. We also work with old age psychiatry and palliative care teams as appropriate.

Inhouse GP Service

Residents will have access to our inhouse GP and his team.

Doctor Geraint Warlow MB BCh (Wales) BSc (Wales) PGDip (Warwick) MRCGP is the clinical lead for the GP service which is the only Irish GP clinic dedicated to residents of nursing homes.

A balanced and tailored approach to care is taken. What is right for one resident, may not be right for the next. The team are here to listen to everyone – firstly the residents but also those around them to find the right path and anticipate and work through some of the challenges ahead.

Doctor Geraint Warlow has a keen interest in complex care and medicine for the elderly.

Nurse Sarah Toland RN (TCD) RNP works alongside Dr Geraint Warlow and has worked in general practice for 14 years. She provides chronic disease care including diabetes, asthma and COPD. Sarah coordinates the in-house bone health service and is a registered nurse prescriber.

Infection Control

The safety of residents and team is our priority at The Fern Dean Stepaside. There is regular contact with the HSE, HIQA and other healthcare experts.

Full training in infection prevention and control measures is in place and there is easy access to PPE.
