Lifestyle

Focus is on the skills residents have rather than the ones they have lost. Working in partnership with families we offer the best for residents. Communal rooms provide opportunities for social engagement and residents are central to what activities are planned. Residents will stay active and engaged in interesting activities and there is something for everyone. Taking the time to get to know our residents and bringing joy to their everyday lives is something we pride ourselves on.

Social Programme

At The Fern Dean Stepaside we feel passionately about ensuring residents feel valued and loved. A strong social, physical and cognitive programme is tailored around the needs and interests of our residents. Participating in a range of interesting, creative and fun activities can make a huge difference to residents and their sense of happiness and wellbeing.

We pride ourselves on getting to know residents and what they like to do. Onsite Activity Coordinators develop social programmes to suit residents interests and tastes and there is always lots of fun and laughter to be heard. An exciting social calendar reflects a broad range of activities and events. Smaller groups of like-minded residents often like to do something specific together and this can be arranged.

Activities range from art classes to gardening, crafts, reminiscence therapy, sensory stimulation (Sonas), pet therapy, cognitive stimulation, exercise, music, quizzes, bingo, weekly Mass, seasonal celebrations, day trips and much more.

There are lots of bright airy spaces for activities indoors. Residents also love to enjoy the sunshine and relax in or partake in activities in our gardens.

Dining

All food and meals are prepared and made fresh on-site every day by our qualified team of chefs.

Residents are provided with a nutritious choice of meals daily and all specialised diets and requests are catered for. Menus are designed with nutrition in mind and are audited by dietitians to ensure they meet the RDA in macro and micro needs.

Meals are served in our dining rooms, located on each floor and we strive to make mealtimes a sociable and enjoyable experience. Alternatively, residents may choose to have meals served in their rooms.

Arrangements can also be made if residents wish to book meals outside of mealtimes, require meals in their rooms or indeed wish to book a private space for catering with family and friends.

Our culinary programme is intertwined with our social activities programme particularly for seasonal celebrations..

Supporting Families

We understand that the changes that come with a person getting older affect not only the individual but also their loved ones. We provide comprehensive support and education to families, empowering them to navigate the challenges of cognitive changes with confidence and compassion.

The Fern Dean Stepaside has an open visiting policy. Family and friends are welcome to visit their loved ones at The Fern Dean Stepaside at any time and residents are encouraged to continue to socialise with family and friends outside of The Fern Dean Stepaside.
